Lindblad Expeditions announced that mountaineer Peter Hillary, son of Sir Edmund Hillary, will join select voyages in 2027, including an Antarctica departure aboard National Geographic Explorer in December. During the trip, called 'Antarctica Direct,' guests will sail one way across the Drake Passage and fly back, exploring channels and coves by Zodiac, kayak and on foot, with chances to see whales and icebergs.
Hillary, known for his mountaineering achievements including Everest ascents and a ski trek to the South Pole, will take part in onboard conversations and activities, sharing stories from his exploration career. While the announcement also covers two Alaska sailings in May 2027, the December Antarctica voyage offers polar travelers a chance to engage directly with a prominent explorer during their expedition.
