National Geographic Society And Lindblad Expeditions Announce 2026 Visiting Scientist Program's Arctic Research Projects

Lindblad Expeditions

The National Geographic Society and Lindblad Expeditions have announced six National Geographic Explorer-led research projects for the 2026 Arctic Visiting Scientist Program, spanning 11 voyages aboard National Geographic Endurance and National Geographic Resolution. Supported by the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Fund, the program brings scientists aboard to conduct fieldwork in remote Arctic regions while engaging travelers in real-time research activities.

The six projects, running from April through September 2026, will study microbial diversity, plankton, glacier structure, intertidal biodiversity, microbial productivity, and microplastics in locations including Svalbard, coastal Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, and Scotland. Guests on these voyages will have opportunities to observe scientists collecting data and learn about Arctic environmental changes firsthand, continuing a program that has supported 16 such projects in the region since 2023.
