Is it worth adding South Georgia and the Falklands?

For wildlife, nothing else in the Southern Ocean compares: South Georgia's beaches hold king penguin colonies numbering in the hundreds of thousands, plus elephant seals, fur seal pups and nesting albatrosses — and Shackleton's grave at Grytviken for the history-minded. The trade-offs are real, though: these itineraries run 18–23 days instead of 10–12, cost substantially more, and typically still spend only about four days in Antarctica proper.

A good rule of thumb: if sheer wildlife density is your priority, add South Georgia; if you want the most of Antarctica itself, put the money into a longer Peninsula itinerary instead. See departures that visit South Georgia.
