The Southern Ocean is the seabird capital of the world: wandering albatrosses with 3.5 m wingspans, cape petrels wheeling in the wake, and prions, skuas and giant petrels all the way south. Sea days on the Drake and Scotia Sea are prime time, stern rail the prime spot.

Expedition teams include ornithologists who call species over the PA and keep the daily log — South Georgia and Falklands itineraries add nesting albatross colonies at arm's length.
