HX Expeditions has introduced a new Artist in Residence programme, an annual initiative inviting artists from different disciplines to join selected sailings. The first participant is novelist Katie Hale, whose earlier novel was inspired by a 2020 HX voyage to Antarctica. She will offer talks, workshops and reflective sessions to help guests engage creatively with the regions they visit.
Hale's first voyage as Artist in Residence will be HX's 21-day Northwest Passage itinerary this September, covering Arctic Canada and Greenland with a circumnavigation of Baffin Bay. She will host free workshops such as 'Writing the Arctic' and 'From Idea to Story', along with quiet writing sessions and a talk about her book. The programme is intended to expand HX's cultural offerings alongside its science and exploration focus on future sailings.
