Oceanwide Expeditions has announced the completion of a conservation project supporting the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust at two historic British research stations on the Antarctic Peninsula: Base Y on Horseshoe Island and Base E on Stonington Island. The m/v Ortelius transported contractors, materials and equipment to the sites in February and March 2026, with Oceanwide staff assisting with structural repairs, roofing, window shutters and surveys over multiple days at each location.
This marks Oceanwide's second major heritage project with UKAHT in two years, following earlier restoration work on Deception Island and transport of renewable energy equipment to Port Lockroy. Swan Hellenic also assisted with logistics between the islands. For travellers, this highlights ongoing collaborative efforts within the Antarctic expedition community to preserve historic sites that remain part of visited itineraries on the Antarctic Peninsula.
