Der Februar ist der Wal-Monat: Buckelwale, Zwergwale und Orcas fressen intensiv in der Gerlache-Straße und den Buchten, und Zodiac-Begegnungen werden fast schon zur Routine. Zurückweichendes Eis öffnet den tiefen Süden – die meisten Überquerungen des Antarktischen Polarkreises finden jetzt statt. Die Pinguinküken werden flügge, und die Alttiere beginnen mit der Mauser.
Die Temperaturen lassen etwas nach, bleiben aber angenehm; die Tage werden kürzer genug, um wieder richtige Sonnenuntergänge zu bringen. Ein Sweet Spot aus Tierbeobachtungen und gegen Ende des Monats etwas milderen Preisen.
