La foca leopardo es la segunda foca más grande de la Antártida después del elefante marino, de cuerpo largo y musculoso con un pelaje moteado similar al del leopardo. Es el máximo depredador de la región y caza pingüinos, peces e incluso otras focas junto al borde del hielo.
